Fes Batista delivers heavy hitting inspirational talk to students
Kirklees College students from Sport and Public Services were treated to an inspirational talk from college alumni and Huddersfield born and bred boxer Fes ‘The Terrier’ Batista about his exciting and challenging journey to the ring and how following his dreams and belief in himself led to him achieving his goals.
Fes, who hails from Crosland Moor, Huddersfield has a fantastic tale to tell about his journey to greatness, from his pathway in studying Public Services at Kirklees College to his experience with bullying at University and the person that rescued him at his lowest point and inspired him to push on and succeed, Lady Gaga.
His high flying career took off when he was signed by American boxing legend Roy Jones Jnr and made his winning debut in a four-round welterweight bout in front of 10,000 people in Florida – an achievement, some thought impossible. He has continued to thrive, becoming an anti-bullying ambassador for the World Boxing Council, and currently there is a documentary being filmed charting his life and career to date.
“I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of positivity and chasing your dreams. You can achieve greatness if you put your mind to it and the only one standing in your way is you. Put the work in, train hard and never give up and you’ll find the right pathway for you,” Fes said.
