Big Congratulations to Big Red Industries for scooping Young Entrepreneur of the Year

Star studded night for Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards as Big Red Industries scoops Young Entrepreneur of the Year award

Big and Little red

Kirklees College lent a supportive hand to the nominees in the Young Entrepreneur Award as the category sponsor at the Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards last week.

Known as the calendar highlight of the year, the Examiner Business Awards is the biggest, the best and longest-standing business awards in the region with a history of recognising and rewarding successful businesses across all sectors.
Dressed to the nines, representatives from across the region turned up in the bucketful to celebrate and support local talent.

The audience was on the edge of their seats as the winner of the Young Entrepreneur was announced with Big Red Industries LLP beating off stiff competition from Alex D Mason PR and House of Lashes to claim the coveted title.

Look North News Presenter Harry Graition presented the awards for the 13th year in a row with Kirklees College Principal Marie Gilluley handing over the coveted Young Entrepreneur prize to Mike Lomas.

Mike of Big Red Industries said of his win: “I’m so thrilled to have won this award, the nominees in this category were so strong and I’m shocked to have been crowned the winner. To be even nominated was a fantastic achievement for me, but winning really helps solidify the journey I have been on and how much Big Red Industries has grown as a company. I couldn’t have achieved what I have without the support of my friends and family and those that have believed in us along the way. This award goes out to them. We’re excited to see where the business can grow and we’re looking forward to all the exciting plans in the pipeline.”

A further ten prizes were awarded at the event, with winners from New Business of the Year, Apprenticeship Award, Community Award and Innovation and Enterprise Award to name a few.

Marie Gilluley, Principal at Kirklees College said: “It’s amazing to see the talent we have in the local region and everyone is a worthy winner. Congratulations to all the nominees but a special well done goes to Mike Lomas for the amazing work Big Red Industries does in the construction sector. We wish you the best of luck with your incredible business venture.”

Special congratulations also go out to Kirklees College Alumni Eric Paxman of Pax Burger for his win in New Business of the Year, and a special mention to Sean Jarvis winner of Business Person of the Year for Huddersfield Town AFC who are sponsored by Kirklees College.
