If you go down to the woods today

Wednesday 18th of August 2010

On Friday 6 August a group of pre-school children from Kirklees College Huddersfield Centre nursery service took a trip to the forest school at Birch Forest TP Woods, Huddersfield.

The trip aimed to help the children gain confidence, communication skills and independence. It allowed them to take risks in a managed environment, and develop their motor skills and self-esteem. The visit was suggested by two of the parents who have used the childcare service at the nursery for the past four years.

June Davidson, child support manager said: "This was a lovely opportunity for our children to get out and about and explore. We hoped the forest school would help to teach them about nature and the environment and improve their ability to reflect on their experiences."

The college's childcare service at the Huddersfield Centre is for employees and parents in the town providing care for children aged 0 to 5 years, with a separate nursery for students. There is also a nursery for students at the Dewsbury Centre. More information on the nursery services can be found at: www.kirkleescollege.ac.uk/info/services
