Securing a future with Kirklees College and GS4
Friday 27th of January 2012
This January, students from Kirklees College were interviewed by the UK's leading security firm, GS4 to recruit into real jobs.
GS4 visited the college and interviewed 25 students on the Public Service and Future Focus courses who have recently completed or are about to complete their level 2 NCFE qualification in spectator stewarding. The students were interviewed for potential work opportunities as security stewards at future public events.
23 of the students were successful and will be offered work at upcoming events such as the Grand National and regional football matches.
Public services lecturer David Stockbridge met with G4S last year. They were keen to interview the students once they found out about the nature of the courses. David explained how enthusiastic the students were to increase their employability. He said that the students were keen to work in either the private security sector or the public services and so the interviews were arranged.
After the recruitment process Karen Maclane the recruitment manager for G4S said, “Today was a really good turnout. I didn’t know what to expect as the tutor had organised everything. I was thoroughly pleased with the calibre of the candidates and the experiences they have. I look forward to working with Kirklees College in the future and have already arranged a similar event with the tutor for next month.”
John Taylor a senior steward for G4S who helped conduct the one to one interviews said, “I had a thoroughly enjoyable day today. It was very good meeting lots of intelligent students and I am glad our company can give them the job prospects and the future that they are looking for and I can’t wait to work with these people in the future at the events we are involved in.”
Hayley McIntyre who was successful recruited by G4S said, “This experience has been positive as it gives me and others a chance at working in a big organisation. This helps us to develop our skills and gives us opportunities that can be related and used to join the public services one day.”
Louise Cooney another successful learner said, “The interview process was a great experience into gaining future employment. I’d like to thank the college for this opportunity.”
