Moving to the new Huddersfield Centre, Waterfront Quarter

Frequently Asked Questions

If I have applied for a course in Huddersfield, where will I be studying in September 2012?

Hair and beauty, business, IT, catering and hospitality, childcare, health and social care, public services, sport, travel and tourism, ESOL, science, Access to HE or foundation learning at Huddersfield - You will be based at our current New North Road site until the new building is ready for you to move in.  

Countryside management, equine studies and animal care – You will be based at either the Hargate Hill Equestrian Centre in Glossop (equine) or the Taylor Hill Centre in Huddersfield (animal and countryside) with occasional lessons at the New North Road site.

Engineering and motor vehicle students - You will be based at the college’s new Engineering Centre on Turnbridge Road, Off St Andrew’s Road, Huddersfield.

Art and design level 1 and 2 at Huddersfield, media, music and performing arts - You will be based at the college’s Highfields Centre, Highfields Road, New North Road, Huddersfield.

Construction including plumbing - You will be based at the college’s Brunel House Centre, Old Fieldhouse Lane, Off Leeds Road, Huddersfield.

Where will I enrol for my course?

Students enrolling for courses at any Huddersfield Centre will come to the current New North Road site. Dates for open enrolment will be posted online in the next few weeks. If you have already applied and accepted, you will receive a letter with your enrolment appointment including the date, time and venue in late July - early August.

When will we move to the new Huddersfield Centre at the Waterfront Quarter?

The college will only move across to the new building when it is complete which will be during the 2012-13 academic year. We do not have a set date for the move at the moment, but will let you know as soon as we do, when we can expect to be in the fantastic new building.
In the meantime, all students at the current New North Road centre in Huddersfield will be given the opportunity to see the near-complete centre when we run a set of organised tours in the autumn.

Will the move affect my studies?

The delayed move will have no impact on students’ learning and they will continue to receive the high quality teaching standard we have come to recognise at Kirklees College. We recently announced that 95 per cent of students pass their course at Kirklees College and, in terms of achievement, places us fourth in England.

What is happening at the new building now?

Kirklees College is working closely with the site developers, Strategic Sites, who have overall responsibility for the delivery of the building, and we have agreed that the planned move will now be phased in later than scheduled.
