The major cities of Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield are close by and London is just three hours away by train. Kirklees is a popular destination for students as the general costs of living are around 40 per cent less compared to other parts of the UK, such as the south of England.
Countryside
Surrounded by National Trust moorland and the Peak District National Park, Kirklees offers a variety of different walking and cycling routes with panoramic views around picturesque villages, reservoirs and moorlands, which have become famous TV and film locations. There are many activities to take advantage of, including pony-trekking, golf, hang gliding, fishing, rock climbing, and trips down the many canals on a narrowboat.
Culture
You can see a show at the renowned Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield, attend at Holmfirth's Picturedrome or visit the wonderful collection of museums, exhibitions and galleries, including the contemporary Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Coal Mining Museum for England and National Media Museum in nearby Bradford.
Shopping

There is a huge range of shops in the area including the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Huddersfield, Yorkshire's largest open market in Dewsbury and The Yorkshire Mill Mile in Batley. Large shopping centres are nearby at Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.
Eating out
You'll be spoilt for choice, from traditional Yorkshire food to cuisine from around the world, there's plenty of places to feed your appetite. There are many local coffee shops, pubs, takeaways and international fast food chains to choose from.
Entertainment
