The college offers classes working towards the higher tier exam, but students can sit the foundation tier exam if they wish.
English is arguably the most important GCSE subject, being a necessary requirement for most Further and Higher Education courses, as well as a wide range of jobs.
The course is taught by highly qualified, experienced staff who ensure that the work is as varied and enjoyable as the examination board's specification allows. If you attend well, complete your assignments and respond to feedback, you stand an excellent chance of gaining this valuable qualification.
The course is unitized - you will be expected to complete three units which compose of a mixture of internally controlled assessments, similar to invigilated examinations and an externally assessed examination, as well as speaking and listening activities.
GCSE English Language will next start next in September (running through until exams in June) and you will attend one class per week. This course is available at both our main sites – Huddersfield and Dewsbury – and classes are available Monday-Friday, morning, afternoon and midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) evening. If you have yet to achieve a grade C in the subject then this course will be free to you.
You will need to undertake an assessment to make sure you are able to study at GCSE level (if unsuccessful you will be offered a place on a Functional Skills).

There are two examination papers, taken at the end of the course in early-June.
You will complete work to assess your progress throughout the course.
