Overview

If you want to learn basic plastering techniques, this course is for you.

The structure of the course combines practical workshops and valuable theory which provides the underpinning knowledge required to increase your quality of work and performance.

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge to be deemed trained to carry out safe working practices in construction to:
      - Sourcing relevant safety information and using the relevant safety procedures at work.
  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge to be deemed trained to interpret information, determine quantities and communicate with other in relation to:
      - Processes for disseminating information.
      - Basic concepts of effective communication.
  • Knowledge of construction technology
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge of building methods and construction technology in relation to understanding the basic principles of:
      - foundation construction
      - floor construction
      - wall construction
      - roof construction
      - supply of utilities and services
      - sustainability within construction.
  • Prepare background surfaces and plaster materials
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to be deemed trained to carry out preparation of background surfaces and plaster materials in relation to:
      - preparing background surfaces.
      - mixing plastering materials for internal work.
  • Apply plaster materials to internal backgrounds
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge to be deemed trained to carry out the application of plaster materials to internal backgrounds in relation to:
      - selecting materials and components.
      - preparing and applying plaster and sheet materials to small areas of internal backgrounds.
  • Produce components from moulds
    • The aim of this unit is to provide you with the knowledge to be deemed trained to carry out the production of components from moulds in relation to:
      - preparing and producing plaster components from a flood mould.
  • Form sand and cement screeds
    • The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge to be deemed trained:
      - interpret information and select the required resources.
      - prepare materials and lay sand and cement screeds to levels and falls.

Entry Requirements

  • A minimum of GCSE English and Maths at GCSE grade 1 or equivalent.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed throughout the course, including practical synopsis assessment and a global online assessment (GOLA) test towards the end of the course.

Progression

You can go on to study the level 2 diploma in plastering.

You can apply for an apprenticeship  on completion of this course, if you have a suitable job.

Fees & Funding

As a full time student, under the age of 19, you will not usually need to pay any course or examination fees.
