Childcare provision within College
The college offers a range of services to help meet the childcare needs of staff and learners. All of our childcare settings provide care for children from 0 - 5 years of age, and are registered and inspected through Ofsted (Early Years) Separate information leaflets are available about each individual setting to help parents make the right choice of care and education for their child. Places are subject to availability, and we would urge parents to seek information at the earliest point.


High Quality Childcare
The First Class Nursery and Annexe recently received a successful accreditation under the Kirklees Early Years Service (KEYS) Quality Assurance Award. The Award assesses Early Years settings and makes judgements on the quality of care and education that is offered to children and parents. Some of the key points that were highlighted were:-

The First Class Nursery and Annexe have also recently been inspected and successfully achieved the Kirklees Healthy Choice Award. This award gives recognition to settings across Kirklees for being committed to high standards of food hygiene, offering healthy food options, and encouraging a smoke free environment. All meals are produced in the nursery from fresh raw ingredients. This includes all bread, cakes, and meals being baked or cooked in the nursery kitchen, with no additives and a healthy fat/salt and sugar content.

Childcare for staff
On the main Kirklees College Huddersfield Centre campus, the First Class Nursery offers places for College staff, private parents and Kirklees Metropolitan Council staff. The nursery offers a friendly, caring environment that encourages each child to develop at their own pace. The Nursery offers high quality care and early education for children 0-5 years of age. The Nursery can offer funded places under the Government Nursery Education Grant Scheme, which offers financial support with fees for children over 3 years. The First Class Nursery is open 51 weeks of the year, 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.


Childcare for learners- Nursery and Outreach Crèches
The First Class Nursery Annexe is also situated within the main campus, providing childcare for learners, supported through the Learner Support Funds. The Annexe offers a range of childcare places for children 0-5 years of age. The Annexe comprises of two baby rooms,a Toddler room and pre-school room for children over 3 years of age. The Annexe is also registered under the Nursery Education Grant scheme, for free places for children over 3 years.

Dewsbury site

At the Dewsbury site we offer a sessional creche for children aged 0 to 5 years, the childcare is  available to students only, and LSC funding is available. healthy snacks are provided but children must be collected for lunch as stated by Ofsted regulations for a minimum of 30 minutes ( a room is available to eat pre-prepared food). the creche is open term time only from 8.30 to 5.

Additionally, a number of our Community Outreach courses offer crèche places within their own community learning area for students who have young children. These are staffed by qualified and experienced childcare staff, and offer a high quality service.
